One of those mornings

This morning started out like any other morning, just running around trying to get things done... get the lunches made, make coffee, feed the dog. Lets pause on that last entry. Drake has to have this powdered medication in his meals, that's bitter so I've been adding it to some canned food (beef for your reference) and mixing the canned food it into his kibble. Well, I went about that routine and after I was done I let him lick the spoon and boy he licks that thing clean! So I set the spoon down on the counter and continue with my other morning activities. First mistake.

As I'm getting ready, I took out the toaster because I thought toast sounded really good this morning. I put my toast in and I walked away to go fix my hair. I came back to the toast when I heard the toast pop up. I take one slice out and set it on the counter but the other is stuck in the toaster. You know when the toasted bread curls from the heat and then the parts from the toaster trap it. Well, I unplugged the toaster (so I don't electrocute myself... myth or no, better safe than sorry I say) and I'm fighting with the toaster for my piece of bread. When I finally free I bumped my other piece and it falls to the floor. Second mistake. Sigh... okay, deep breath, I still have one slightly mangled piece left. So, I quickly butter my torn piece of toast and add a little jam and walk away to finish my hair. I come back and decide I better eat some cereal too so that my stomach doesn't try eating itself on my way to work. I grab a bowl and a glass from the cabinet and set it over on the countertop (can you see where I'm going with this?), pour my cereal and a glass of milk. I reflexively grab the spoon that's sitting next to my bowl, put it in the bowl and take everything to the table to sit down. As I go to take my first bite I insert the spoon and pull it out of my mouth, several thoughts cross my mind at once...
...why did I grab a large spoon?
...why did the spoon spell funny?
...don't bite down!
...oh no... that was the dog food spoon that Drake licked clean!
...outta my way Drake! I have to spit this out!!!

So I ran to the sink spit out the cheerios and dump the whole bowl in the trash. Yep, I had grabbed the dog food spoon. That'll teach me to leave that just sitting on the counter. I was still hungry so I just poured myself another bowl of cheerios, making certain to obtain a clean spoon from the drawer.

I saved a life today!

I saved a life today! I had just parked my car at work and was walking toward the building when I saw these two figures standing near a car about 20 yards away from me. As I walked toward them it looked like they were arguing and the smaller of the two was standing in a defensive position while the bigger figure in black tried to play off the situation by looking nonchalant. As I got closer, the figure in black turned to watch me walk past and that gave the little guy the chance to escape! Of course the figure in black tried to pursue but the little guy was swifter and craftier and was able to join a flock flying past!

Ok, so I'm talking about two birds. One was a crow and the other was a little sparrow but I still think I totally saved the little sparrow from certain death! He had his wings up in an almost "karate bird" kind of position and the crow was standing over him and making loud clucking noises. The crow actually did try to look nonchalant as I walked closer and started pecking at the ground like "nothing going on here... just a couple of birds... pecking at the ground". That's when the little sparrow saw his moment and took off into the air. The crow shot up after him and they both nearly took my head off as they did so, but as I said, the little sparrow was able to escape!
Well, it may not have been as exciting as you initially thought but for the sparrow, it was absolutely heartpounding!

You're Never Too Old

I've been remiss in my blogging as I feel like my day to day is currently less adventerous than what it should be. It's been quite a struggle trying to even think of something to write about, until today, I came across this story on 9news. A 90 year old woman went skydiving! Now skydiving is an amazing feat for anyone who doesn't have a daredevil's DNA in my opinion but I think it's pretty darn spectacular that a 90 year old decided that she wanted to willingly jump out of a plane, with the intention of landing safely on the ground. We should all be so inclined after reading not only this inspiring story but her equally inspiring thoughts on the subject:

"I'm glad I did it. I don't know if I'd ever do it again but you have to just live. Age is just a number on a page. You're never too old to do what you want to do. Don't just talk about it, do it. You got to enjoy life, that's my philosophy,"

You just have to live. There are no truer words. Even though I try to approach each day positively I have lately gotten into a rut of monotony. Mostly because my job is so monotonous and dull but then I make that my excuse to continue in my little routine when I'm at home. I have to take a tac from Hazel's philosophy and just live. Do something everyday that's a little out of my routine. Something that challenges my mind, body or spirit, or all of the above! I'm not saying I have to jump out of a plane once a week but I need to change it up. Big changes are coming soon and I need to be ready to face them and prepare for them with a full and happy heart. So my blog family, to do so, I'm going to try to post more often with the things that I'm doing to change it up and just live. Even if that sometimes means I sat down and read a book. I'll let you know how it goes! I encourage all of us to do the same!
